He opened the door and continued through the ruins. On the other side was a space that looked much less architecturally elaborate. It was as if from there everything was roughly excavated out of the rock. A few feet in front of him grew a tree whose trunk and leaves were of a whitish color, a kind of tree that Adeon had never seen before. He thought that the peculiar appearance might be due to the fact that it had to grow down there without sunlight.

Adeon wondered what kind of dangers awaited him ahead, and for a moment he thought about going back and maybe forgetting about all that madness forever. He told himself that he was no hero, and that the whole thing was far beyond his capabilities.

However, he finally forced himself to take another step and continued on through the darkness.

He had advanced only a few feet, when he felt a heavy blow on his head.
